What is sodium cocoate made of?

Sodium cocoate is a mixture of fatty acid salts of coconut oil that is used in coconut oil-based soaps. Sodium cocoate is produced by a process called saponification: the hydrolysis of the ester linkages in coconut oil with sodium hydroxide (NaOH), a strong base.

If organic coconut oil is used the resulting soaps bars can also be organic certified.
